Eadweard Muybridge was the 19th century photographer widely considered the pioneer of moving images, and the original inspiration for the Bodies in Motion library. He is renowned for his series of Animal Locomotion plates published in 1887. Featuring a wide range of movement from both humans and animals, these plates have been studied by artists for over a century.
Bodies in Motion has the most complete collection of Muybridge’s work available online. To show the true intention of his photography, we have cut each plate into individual frames so the artist can see them animate, as well as studying them frame-by-frame.
